Making Global Diplomacy Look Easy

Making Global Diplomacy Look Easy

Written by Mr. Torrance

Solving geopolitical challenges was no problem for the team from CTBC International School’s Model United Nations Club this past weekend at the I-Shou International School Model United Nations conference in Kaohsiung. The theme of this year’s conference was “Empowering Voices for the Silenced”. Our delegates took this theme seriously and advocated for those less fortunate through their debates and resolution drafting. It was a busy, but fun weekend for the participants.

The team rested and ready to solve global issues!

There were many highlights from the weekend that warrant recognition. In the General Assembly 4 committee, which was composed of both high school and middle school students, two of our middle school delegates, Livy and Chloe, had resolutions passed of which they were the main submitters. Chanel, a first time Model United Nations conference delegate, took on the challenge of joining an advanced historical crisis committee. From her opening speech, it was clear that she was a natural at debating and role playing a historical entity.

A great reminder from our delegates that peace is always the goal!

During the closing ceremony, special recognition was given to two of our delegates. First, in the security council representing India, delegate Phil was recognized for his creativity and willingness to help other delegates understand committee procedure and debate. Second, first time conference participant York, from grade 8, was recognized by his committee chairs for how willing he was to participate in a committee with many high school students given his younger age.

Big smiles after fixing all of the problems of the world!

Other first time delegates included grade 8 Amber, grade 10 Hilton, and grade 12 Ivory, all of whom were able to rise to the podium and give their very first model united nations conference speeches. A real milestone! Our model united nations club team looks forward to future conferences where our delegates will be taking on new responsibilities and challenges such as acting as International Court of Justice judges and chairing their very own committees. We move onward to the second semester conference season with energy and confidence. Congratulations to all of the delegates for their great work this past weekend!

Thank you to I-Shou International School and their IISMUN team for a great conference experience and awesome conference hoodies!
