Learning Beyond the Classroom: Project-Based Learning at CTBC International Academy
Written by Mr. Croaker
At CTBC International Academy, education goes far beyond the traditional classroom setting. The school’s innovative Project-Based Learning (PBL) class encourages students to explore real-world topics through teamwork, critical thinking, and hands-on experience. By engaging in meaningful projects and participating in thoughtfully planned excursions, students develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Each PBL unit is designed to spark curiosity and build essential life skills. Students work in teams to research, plan, create, and present solutions to real-life challenges. These collaborative projects help young learners practice communication, responsibility, and creative problem-solving.
Central to each of these classes is the belief that learning should extend beyond textbooks. That’s why excursions are a key part of the PBL experience. These trips give students the opportunity to connect their classroom learning to the real world, sparking new ideas and helping them see how their work has meaning outside of school. Excursions also provide a space for students to practice teamwork in new environments and to experience different aspects of local culture, helping them grow as open-minded and respectful individuals.
A recent excursion to Anping Old Street offered students a chance to engage with local history and tradition in a fun, interactive way. While exploring the bustling alleyways, students solved puzzles in a traditional candy store, challenging their problem-solving skills while experiencing a piece of Taiwanese heritage. Through hands-on activities and cultural exploration, students not only deepened their understanding of the area but also gained new appreciation for the connection between the past and present.
The combination of project-based learning and real-world excursions is helping CTBC International Academy students become more engaged, capable, and globally minded individuals. By connecting learning to authentic experiences, the PBL class is shaping confident learners who are ready to explore, contribute, and grow.
