CTBC International Academy Reading Buddies: Building Skills and Confidence Together
Written by Ms. Ryan

At CTBC International Academy, the Reading Buddies program has been an incredible success for the past three years. Every week, high school volunteers team up with elementary students during lunch or break times to read short stories together. This initiative continues to grow, with more high school students stepping up to help every year.
The program provides a valuable opportunity for all participants. For the younger students, it’s a chance to strengthen their reading and phonics skills, helping them build a strong foundation in literacy. This extra practice also helps them gain confidence in their abilities, which has a positive impact on their overall learning experience.
For junior and high school students, the program offers a chance to develop leadership and mentoring skills. These experiences are not only rewarding but are also valuable assets when applying to universities. The dedication and time they invest in the program reflect a commitment to making a difference in their community.
The Reading Buddies program is a perfect example of the strong sense of collaboration at CTBC International Academy, where students of all ages support and inspire each other. It’s an enriching experience that benefits everyone involved, helping to create a culture of learning and growth.
