CIS Welcomes Japanese Exchange Students

CIS Welcomes Japanese Exchange Students

Written by Dr. Dooley

Our school community is delighted to welcome four exchange students from Yokohama Overseas Chinese School(橫濱中華學校)in Japan. June, Emily, Koharu, and Shine (all in Grade 10) will be here until December.

The exchange with Yokohama Overseas Chinese School has been running for several years and is a valued part of our school’s international connections. For the visiting students, it is an opportunity to experience Taiwanese school life and culture firsthand. Our students also have the chance to make new friends, practice languages in real situations, and learn about Japanese culture from people their own age.

The exchange students are happy to be at CIS.

In an interview with them, June, Emily, Koharu, and Shine expressed their appreciation of the warm welcome they’ve received at CIS. They have found our students to be very friendly. Well done, students! A friendly greeting or a shared meal can make a big difference to someone studying far from home.

While many students from Yokohama Overseas Chinese School have come to CIS over the years, very few of our own students have made the journey in the other direction. This is largely due to differences between the two education systems which can make it difficult to fit a term abroad into a student’s study plan. Nevertheless, the opportunity is available. If a student would like to be considered for the exchange program, please contact the school office and let us know. We will be happy to discuss what the program involves.

We wish our guests an enjoyable and rewarding stay at CIS.
