CTBC International School Takes Part in National Earthquake Drill
Written by Mr. Medina
On Monday, September 21, CTBC International School (CIS) joined schools and communities across Taiwan in the official earthquake drill organized by the Central Weather Administration (CWA). At exactly 9:21 a.m., the drill began, giving our students and staff an opportunity to put the earthquake safety procedures they had learned into practice.
In the days leading up to the drill, teachers took time to explain and review the school’s earthquake safety procedures with their students. Everyone knew what to expect and understood the importance of staying calm, listening carefully, and following instructions. As a result, when the drill began, students were prepared and ready to respond.
During the drill, students first protected their heads with a sturdy textbook. They then exited their classrooms in an orderly manner with their teachers and made their way to the basketball court. Once there, students lined up with their teachers while continuing to protect their heads with their textbooks. The organized response demonstrated how important preparation and practice are during an emergency.
At CIS, student safety is one of our top priorities, which is why the school conducts earthquake drills every year. Regular practice helps students become familiar with the procedures and gives them greater confidence in knowing what to do if a real earthquake occurs.
We were proud to see our students participate so responsibly in this year’s drill. Their calm and cooperative response showed that the preparation they received from their teachers had made a difference. While we hope our students will never need to use these procedures during a real earthquake, being prepared and knowing how to respond are important steps toward keeping our entire school community safe.
